All About Hampden, MA

Hampden is a city in Hampden County and sits inside Springfield. The namesake of Hampden is John Hampden, an English patriot. The Hampden-Wilbraham region was once known as Minnechaug (“berry land” or “berry hill”) to the Nipmuc Indians. They sold it to William Pynchon of Springfield in 1674, and the area then became known as Springfield Mountain, but it was not settled (as South Wilbraham) until about 1741. The first European settlers were the Stebbins and Hitchcock families. The first sawmill was erected on the Scantic in the vicinity of the V.F.W. building. The “Rattlesnake Incident of 1761” is thought to have occurred on farmland in what is now Hampden on August 7 of that year, when 22-year-old Timothy Merrick was killed by a snakebite while mowing his father’s field – an event immortalized by “On Springfield Mountain”, among the earliest ballads ever written in North America, and the basis for the modern folk song “Rattlesnake Mountain.”

It’s no secret that Hampden has a rich history but it’s also a tourist destination. Take in the breathtaking views and sip some wine and spirits at Echo Hill Orchards Winery & Distillery. Do the winery tastings where you can try wine, whiskey, and even moonshine – all made with the fruits from their orchard. Spend the day at Sonny’s Place where you can choose to play arcade games, try out the go-karts, play laser tag, and even experience the feeling of weightlessness in the first 4-person gyroscope ride in the world! After a full day like that, head to casa bella Italian Kitchen & Bar for Italian specialties and thin crust pizza you won’t soon forget. Year round, people flock to Hampden to enjoy everything it has to offer, but unfortunately, so do pests. While these bugs and rodents provide benefits to the eco-system in Hampden, they can also be a serious problem at homes and businesses. That’s when a professional pest control expert should be called in.

Pest control services near you

Properly controlling pests in Hampden, MA should be done on a local level. Hampden’s pest issues are different than Cape Cod’s and way different than Vermont’s. The pest control company you choose should have knowledge and expertise in your town. That’s Waltham Pest Services. We have been servicing Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island for 130 years. That kind of expertise is unmatched in the industry. And with a branch located in nearby Agawam, our technicians, customer services representatives, and everyone else that works at that location lives and works in the area, too. Our neighbors are your neighbors, and we treat them that way.
As the Bay State, Massachusetts is known for having everything from beaches to cities to forests. Hampden is no exception. Warm, moist summers give way to cold winters, which means over-wintering insects, rodents, and other small wildlife need to find warm places to wait out the cold. The local extermination experts at our Agawam, MA branch are used to dealing with mice, carpenter ants, bed bugs, termites, mosquitoes, ticks – and even the occasional cheeky raccoon or hiding bat. No matter the season, your pest control service needs will be taken care of by a local exterminator that knows the area and the pests that are common to it. In the summer, they know what that the ponds and birdbaths many people have around their homes can be exactly where mosquitoes like to breed. They know that the ticks that come out during the summer months can transmit Lyme disease so while nobody can help the wooded areas around Hampden Memorial Park, they can help your backyard stay free from them. In the cooler months, they know mice can try to make their way into your garage – especially if that’s where you keep the 20 lb. bag of dog food! No matter what pest, any time of the year, our pest control treatments in Hampden can help, including:
